FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

GLP-1 medications mimic a natural hormone that helps regulate appetite, digestion, and blood sugar. They work by:

  • Increasing fullness
  • Slowing stomach emptying
  • Reducing blood sugar spikes
  • Supporting appetite control

Most patients feel satisfied with smaller portions and fewer cravings.

Common side effects

Side effects are usually temporary and digestive:

  • Nausea, heartburn, constipation
  • Mild fatigue

These often occur during dose adjustments. I reduce side effects with gradual titration, smaller meals, hydration, and proper nutrition. Most improve within a few weeks.

Muscle Loss

Some muscle loss can occur with any weight loss. Without proper support, ~20–30% of weight lost may be lean mass.

 I prioritize:

  • Adequate protein
  • Strength training
  • Strategic dosing
  • Metabolic support

Fatigue, Hair Loss, Joint Pain

Fatigue: Temporary early on; improves as your body adapts

Hair loss: Can occur with rapid weight loss (temporary; regrowth in 3–9 months)

Joint pain: Uncommon; often related to hydration or electrolytes

Coffee & Lifestyle:
No direct interaction with caffeine, but:

  • Coffee on an empty stomach may worsen nausea
  • Caffeine may contribute to dehydration

Expected results

Weight loss varies based on metabolism, hormones, nutrition, activity, and consistency.

Focus is on sustainable fat loss and long-term metabolic health—not rapid fixes.

Peptides are amino acid chains that support processes like metabolism, recovery, and hormone signaling.

Potential side effects:

  • Headache, nausea, flushing, temporary taste changes

Not all patients are candidates. Use is individualized and based on medical evaluation.

HRT is not appropriate for patients with certain cancer histories.

Current evidence shows:

  • HRT does not initiate cancer in those without pre-existing disease
  • Risk varies by age, hormone type, and timing
  • Some data suggests protective effects (e.g., colon cancer)
  • Breast cancer risk is comparable to other modifiable risks (like obesity)

All care includes appropriate screening and individualized risk-benefit analysis.

Compounded medications are prescription medications prepared by licensed pharmacies to meet the unique needs of an individual patient.

Unlike commercially manufactured medications that are available in standardized doses and forms, compounded medications can be customized in:

  • Specific dosing strengths
  • Alternative delivery forms (capsule, cream, injection, troche, etc.)
  • Ingredient combinations
  • Removal of certain fillers or additives

Compounding allows for a more personalized approach when a commercially available product does not align with a patient’s clinical needs.

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved as finished products. They are prepared by licensed pharmacies pursuant to a prescription from a medical provider.

Compounding pharmacies are regulated by state boards of pharmacy and must comply with applicable state and federal standards. Many also follow United States Pharmacopeia (USP) guidelines for quality and sterility.

At Matryx, compounded medications may be used when they allow for:

  • Precision dosing tailored to your treatment plan
  • Greater flexibility in formulation
  • Improved patient convenience
  • Individualized care when standardized options are not optimal

The decision to use a compounded medication is made after careful clinical evaluation and discussion of risks and benefits.

Ongoing monitoring is essential for:

  • Progress tracking
  • Dose adjustments
  • Side effect management
  • Long-term safety

If a medication isn’t tolerated, I adjust dosing or explore alternatives—no one-size-fits-all plans.

You are never locked into a one-size-fits-all plan.
